In spite of being highly acclaimed and widely appreciated for his comic timing and mimicry skills, he had remained strangely under-rated as a comedian. But the dark horse on the Indian stand-up comedy circuit seems to have finally got his due. Comedian VIP has been signed on by none other than Rohit Shetty for a meaty role in his forthcoming film, Bol Bachchan. The soft-spoken, diminutive artist from Rajasthan still finds it hard to believe that he is making his debut with the likes of Ajay Devgn, Abhishek Bachchan and Asin. “Although work on the film has begun, I still feel as if I’m in the middle of a dream. The truth hasn’t sunk in yet,” said the visibly elated VIP.
Rohit Shetty, one of the judges on the Comedy Circus series, has always been highly appreciative of VIP’s performances on the show. But he had never declared his intentions to cast the comedian in his star-studded comedy caper. “That is why Rohit’s call offering me the film seemed straight out of a fairy tale for me,” VIP gushed.
One of the earliest artists on the Indian stand-up comedy scene, VIP, whose real name is Vijay Ishwarlal Pawar, had been frequently overshadowed by his more boisterous colleagues. However, he always managed to carve a niche for himself, first, winning the second season of Comedy Circus with actress Juhi Parmar and then, grabbing eyeballs with actor Swapnil Joshi as his partner. With an undisputed mastery over mimicry, VIP can imitate 52 well-known Bollywood actors in a span of one minute. In fact, the comedian is aiming for a mention in the Guinness Book for his mind-blowing feat.
A native of Bikaner in Rajasthan, VIP started out as a stage performer when orchestra shows were at their peak of popularity. Thanks to his amazing skills, the artist is still a much-sought after celebrity during Bollywood music concerts across the country and abroad.
